Panch Pokhari trek

This is a relatively new trekking in Nepal trail to Panch Pokhari situated at an altitude of 4100 metres and combines the  rich cultural heritage of Sherpa and Tamang ethnic with the unsurpassed natural beauty and biological diversity, offers pristine mountains views, rich culture, genuine adventure, bio diversity, natural beauty. The trek goes through the beautiful mountain scenery and the terraced fields and characteristic houses of rural villages from different ethnic groups before reaching the high altitude holy lakes are secret to Buddhist and Hindu people. Along the way you have stunning views of Langtang Range, Jugal Himal, Rolwaling Himal and other snow-capped peaks. The symbolic meaning of this Panch Pokhari is “Five different pristine lakes” are dedicated to lord Shiva which is worshipped by Hindu and Buddhist both.  But the area is scattered with lots of historical places, religious places, Caves and naturally beautiful lakes are other important things for the religious pilgrim. The 9th highest altitude wetland in the world Panch Pokhari is source of peace, brotherhood and solace where thousands of 

Can you imagine waking up to this view every morning

pilgrims come on every Janai Purnima from surrounding villages and lots of Shamans (witch doctor) in a special costume visit which is really notable. So this area plays a very significant part of this trek as well as a visit to the historical place-Dukhang (Haveli) where so called kingly Kaji rulers used to live 172 years ago and which is noticeable through the ancient art of the building and infrastructure. Where you can see the history revealed through the attached calligraphy and it’s said that the Kaji family was linked with Rana rulers to rule the local people of this place.This trek starts with a five hours drive by bus or private vehicle from capital city Kathmandu to Chautara (1410m) through the hills side paddy terraces and picturesque villages. And the trek starts at an altitude at 1,400m from sea level and goes up to 4,100m at Panch Pokhari, a seldom-visited pilgrimage site to Tarke Gyang in Helambu or back down to the Tibetan border Tatopani.

Day 01 Arrival at Kathmandu (1348 m)

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, Tribhuwan International Airport we will receive you with private vehicle and transfer to hotel in Kathmandu/Planet Bhaktapur in B/B plan. Our representative will give you information about your upcoming trekking in Nepal experience. As your request we go to short walk around old city area.

Day 02 Sightseeing in Kathmandu

The day begins with a drive to Changunarayan, which is situated approximately 20 km east of Kathmandu.  It’s said to be one of the oldest temple of Kathmandu valleys and is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage monument list and is rumoured to have been built by King Hari Dutta in 323 AD. From here you will take a little trek to reach the well-known beauty spot of Nagarkot (2,195m.) by walking through the pine forests 

along the ridge and through the villages with splendid view of the valley and mountains. It is one the most panoramic destinations of Nepal for landscapes, mountain views including Mt Everest and magnificent sunrise and sun set view so you stay the night as its a great way to start your trekking in Nepal experience. 
Day 03 Drive Kathmandu to Chautara (1450 m), 4 to 5 hours

The day starts with a drive to Chautara which takes about 5 / 6 hrs scenic driving by bus or Land cruiser (depending on group size). And offers amazing scenery of the foothills, ridgeline vistas, rice terraces, streams, rivers, local settlements and high hills to the Chautara as well as passing along the road you catch a glimpse of Ganesh Himal and other mountains. Chautara is head quarter of Sindupalchok district and you will camp here tonight, ready to commence walking tomorrow on your first day of trekking in Nepal experience.  From our camp site you can

Day 04 Trek Chautara to Sano Okhareni (1965 m), 4 to 5 hours

Its around 5 hour’s gradual uphill walk to reach Sano Okhareni. The trails goes through small villages and see how the diverse ethnic groups live side by side. Our camp is at Sano Okhareni near a pine forest and with great views to the mountains.

Day 05 Trek Sano Okhareni to Kami Kharka (2810 m), 4 to 5 hours

This morning the day starts with a gradual uphill walk of about 1 hour to Thulo Okhareni followed by another 4 hours of even steeper walking through stunning, dense Rhododendron and pine forest. Here keep observant as there is a chance of glimpsing such animals as mountain deer or Langur monkeys and Nepali birdlife like the Danfe. A little further on you will reach the summer pasture ground at Kami Kharka used for centuries by the nomadic cattle herders at Kami Kharka where you spend the night.

Day 06 Trek Kami Kharka to Pauwa Bas (3000 m), 5 to 6 hours

Today the walking is a lot easier than yesterday with a fairly level through the forest trails where you can take your time spotting some of the various wildlife that call the Himalayas their home.  With 5-6 hours walking through the lush forest of rhododendron, oak, pine and juniper and we can see some nomad’s houses for cattle it’s a pleasant rest from the day before. In Pauwa Bas you can see a shelter for pilgrims to Panch Pokhari during full moon of August.

Day 07 Trek Pauwa Bas to Hille Bhanjyang (3400 m) , 5 hours

After breakfast the trail leads us steep uphill stretch for about 3 hours, taking our time. We get our breath back on the steep downhill though as we descend for 1 ½ hours through the forest with birds chirping. It offers some great mountain views on our way down into our camp at Hille Bhanjyang. We stay overnight at camp.

Day 08 Trek Hille Bhanjyang to Narsim Pati (3700 m) 6 to 7 hours

Today is a short trekking in Nepal day as it will only last around 4 hours so take things easy on the first uphill section which will take around an hour. After that you can enjoy the gradual descent of about 3 hours through rocky hills and rhododendron forest into camp at Narsim Pati where great mountain views are to be had. There is a small rest house for pilgrims on their way to the holy site of Panch Pokhari every August full moon.

Day 09 Trek Narsim Pati to Panch Pokhari (4100 m) -3 to 4 hours

Today is the shortest day of the trek with a 3-4 hour gradual descent through the rocky hills until you reach Pokhari (panch means ‘five’ and Pokhari means ‘lake’).  This stunning setting is a secluded pilgrimage site where the Janai Purnima (August full Moon) festival is held every year.  And you will find thousands of Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims visiting this site each year to pray at the temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Day 10 Trek Panch Pokhari- Panch Pokhari top to Tupi Danda (2320 m) -6 to 7 hours

Start today early in the morning with a walk to catch the stunning sunrise over the mountains. It takes about 1 ½ hours uphill to see the beautiful sight of the sun rising. But the panoramic view includes Mt. Dorje Lakpa, Jugal Himal Range, Rolwaling Range and Langtang Range. Before heading back down to Panch Pokhari to pack up and start heading for the next destination which will take around 6 hours descent through some steep trails and a rhododendron forest to Tupi Danda (Danda means ‘ridge’) and our camp.

Day 11 Trek Tupi Danda to Dhap (1200 m) -4 to 5 hours

After a nice hot breakfast you start todays walking of around 5 hours. The first two are quite steep downhill with the rest being a level hike through the terraced fields before reaching the beautiful village of Dhap.  Home to the Tamang caste it will give you the chance to experience their culture and traditions as you stay the night.

Day 12 Rest day and explore the culture

After many days on the trail it’s time for a late breakfast and the chance to explore this interesting village throughout the day. The guide will lead you around explaining the many activities that are going on heading out of the village to explore the surrounding area.  Its encouraged for all visitors to interact with the locals gaining a greater insight into what it’s like living in the Himalayas.

Day 13 Trek Dhap to Melamchi (800 m) 5 to 6 hours

Last day on the trail on your trekking in Nepal experience as you hike through terraced fields following the Indrawati River as you pass some stunning villages and the hydroelectricity project on the way to Tipini before joining with road and reaching  the Melamchi Pul Bazaar which lies at the bank of Melamchi Khola (stream) and Indrawati River. For the area its quite a big town with some lodges, tea shops, government offices, schools, colleges, post office and army police camp. Our camp will setting by the riverside and if you like you can refresh yourself with a dip in the river! Here a traditional last night celebration is planned with the trekking team with singing, dancing with them and the local people.

Day 14 Drive back Melamchi to Kathmandu (1348 m) -3 to 4 hours

After having breakfast you will drive back to Kathmandu through the road passing terraces, streams, rivers and local settlements. It takes about 3/4 hours (conditional) to reach your hotel in Kathmandu by bus/ private car.
