Chitwan trek

Chitwan Trail trek

Most international visitors who plan to come trekking in Nepal hear the name Nepal & the Himalayas think of mighty majestic snow-capped mountains stretching for as far as the eye can see. But did you know just a 100 miles to the south is the foothills of the Himalayas which may not be as majestic in terms of height they do hold an amazing opportunity for you to experience an entirely different culture. Because largely forgotten by tourists on their way to the sub-tropical jungles of Chitwan with their elephants, tigers & rhinos is an area where some of the poorest castes struggle to survive. It`s an amazing place where small communities survive perched on the ridges of the foothills overlooking the Terai to the south and up to the snow-capped mountains of the north. Here, life is a struggle because the sheer logistics of life in the village means many of the local villagers will leave to study in the city or low paid work in the Middle East. Because quite simply there is no infrastructure for business, tourism or anything in the area until now with one NGO wanting to create a new

Views from the Trail as you head up towards the top of Chitwan

trekking route through the villages with the trekkers staying in local homestays only. To do this though we need to promote, promote , promote finding adventurous  trekkers interested in not only seeing the beauty of Chitwan, the flat lands or the Terai & the snow-capped mountains of the Himalayas but also  the beauty of the Chepang people. You might have heard about the highest point of Chitwan, Siraichuli (1946mt) in Chitwan Chepang Village Trail Route the important destination for the region which has the unique mixtures of views of majestic mountains, hills, floral diversity and innate hospitality of ever smiling faces of local people mostly from the Chepang tribes.

The start of the trail and its uphill from here

This is Ideal for trekkers who have little experience in trekking in Nepal & who have a few days to spare & don’t want to waste them sitting around in Kathmandu, Pokhara or Chitwan eating & drinking. Because the region itself takes you through small trails, local settlements right the way up through to Upperdanggardi the ancient seat of power of Chitwan. From which, on a clear day you can see the snow-capped mountains to the North & the flatlands of the Terai stretching out towards the Indian border to the south. You will also be lured by beauties of floral diversity and birds of different types along

with small waterfalls on the way and sunrise as well as sunset views from Siraichuli the highest point in Chitwan and beyond.

Our trekking region lies in two districts of Nepal starting from Dhading and ending to Chitwan. From the start to almost end of the route there are no facilities of good lodge and electricity, so all have to stay at home stays and use light of solar panel giving you the chance to really see rural Nepal at its very best. Local food served fresh from the fields will be Dhal, Bhat and

local vegetables cooked in Chepang style who are the dominant castes in these parts.  As the trail is quite rural there are basic medical outposts scattered around but because our first thoughts are for the safety of trekkers we ask you to make sure your fit enough for the trek. But just in case of accidents our guides all trained with first aid knowledge as well as direct access to the local medical outposts. The aim of this trekking in Nepal route is to build infrastructure in the foothills of the Himalayas to help the local villagers develop tourism which will in turn help in economic development. So by your participation you will be helping these areas in the development of tourism as well as in improving and managing homestays for economic development of local and for doing health and education camp in local school on coming days.

A great way to see a part of Nepal that the majority of tourists will never reach. Ideal for adventurous people & those who love the outdoors, healthy eating and experiencing rural Nepal at its best.

Day 01. Start your trek

Your trekking in Nepal journey begins in Kathmandu with an early local bus ride down the Privithi highway the main road to Chitwan to reach Hugdi Bazar approx. 100 kms away. Stop here for a quick breakfast before spending the day hiking uphill (lunch will be eaten at Jayapuri) following the trails to reach Hattibang 1410m. Here you will have your first taste of rural Nepali life as the night is spent here.

Day 02 To the highst point in Chitwan

Very early morning start after a quick snack before you leave with the intention of reaching Siraichuli (the highest point in Chitwan) to see the sunrise over the Himalayas. This takes approx. 2 hours depending on the how we walk so then after a quick rest here we head for Chisapanitar (1695mt) downhill and for another 3 – 4 hours and reach Upperdanggardi

Always easier going down hill the other side of Chitwan

(1272mt).  Here lies the ancient fort which used to be the main power in Chitwan. Spend the night here.

Day 03. Heading back to civilization

After an early breakfast at Upperdanggardi you will visit fort before making our way down the trails to Shaktikhor(355mt) and then you will either be taken to Bharatpur & back to Kathmandu or for a well-deserved cold beer at Sauraha Chitwan for a couple of days rest.
